East China Grid Co., Ltd. has selected DSATools for use in its system planning
department for power system studies. East China Grid Co., Ltd. manages one of the
largest power grids in the world, covering four provinces in Eastern China and the
city of Shanghai. It is responsible for the planning, development, operation, and
management of this power grid.
Inner Mongolia EPRI selects DSATools
January 2012 -
Inner Mongolia EPRI, China, has selected DSATools for conducting its work in the
area of power system studies. Inner Mongolia EPRI is a subsidiary of Inner Mongolia
Power (Group) Co. Ltd. which is a state-owned power company located in Hohhot, Inner
Mongolia. Its core business is the construction, operation and management of power
grids in 10 cities in Inner Mongolia.
SEB selects DSATools
January 2012 -
Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) has selected DSATools for use in its power system
studies. Sarawak Energy Berhad as a holding company is principally involved in
the power and electricity sector. Its wholly-owned subsidiary, Syarikat SESCO
Berhad has the right to generate, transmit, distribute and supply electricity
throughout the State of Sarawak, Malaysia.
BC Hydro awards on-line TSA project to Powertech
September 2011 -
BC Hydro has awarded its on-line TSA project to
Powertech which will be based on the DSATools software package.
BC Hydro is a crown corporation in the province of British Columbia,
Canada, that plans and delivers power required to meet British Columbia's
growing demand for electricity. BC Hydro is the parent company of Powertech.
2011 DSATools user group meeting successfully held
September 2011 -
The 2011 DSATools user group meeting was held in St. Paul, Minnesota,
from September 13 to 14. This year’s UGM was attended by 29 users from
5 countries, representing 19 companies. The recently-released DSATools
version 11 was demoed at the meeting, followed by presentations and
discussions focused on the implementation of on-line dynamic security
assessment systems using DSATools. The highlight of the meeting was a
tour to Midwest ISO control center where MISO’s on-line DSA system based
on VSAT, TSAT, and DSA Manager was shown and discussed.
Statnett selects DSATools for on-line use
September 2011 -
Powertech, in partner with Alstom Grid, has won the project to implement
an on-line voltage and transient security assessment system at Statnett.
Statnett is Norway’s national main power grid owner and the Transmission
System Operator (TSO) of the Norwegian electric power system.
ISO New England selects DSATools for on-line use
September 2011 -
ISO New England has awarded its on-line TSA project to Powertech which will be based
on the DSATools software package. ISO New England is a regional transmission organization
(RTO), serving Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.
ISO New England meets the electricity demands of the region's economy and people by fulfilling
three primary responsibilities: ensuring the day-to-day reliable operation of New England's bulk
power generation and transmission system, overseeing and ensuring the fair administration of the
region's wholesale electricity markets, and managing comprehensive, regional planning processes.
CPS Energy selects TSAT
July 2011 -
CPS Energy has selected TSAT for use in power system studies of its
transmission system. CPS Energy is the largest municipally owned
energy company in US providing both gas and electricity, with the
service area in Greater San Antonio.
EETC selects DSATools for on-line
June 2011 -
Powertech, in partner with Alstom Grid, has won the project to
implement an on-line voltage and transient security assessment
system at the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC). EETC
is a government-owned company responsible for the transmission grid
in Egypt. The company manages, operates and maintains the high
voltage (HV) and extra-high-voltage (EHV) power transmission grid
nationwide. EETC purchases bulk power produced by Egypt's power
plants and sells bulk power to the nation's electricity
distribution.

April 2011 - DSATools Version 11, including PSAT, VSAT, TSAT, SSAT and CDT is now released.
This new version of the popular power system analysis software incorporates major enhancements in terms of the modeling, features, and usability.

Hong Kong Electric
selects SSAT
April 2011 - The Hong Kong Electric Company
Limited (HK Electric) has selected Powertech's Small Signal Analysis
Tool (SSAT) for analysis of its power grid. HK Electric is one of
the longest-established power companies in the world and has a long
record of providing an efficient and reliable electricity supply to
its half a million customers on Hong Kong Island and Lamma Island.
CAISO selects TSAT for on-line use
March 2011 - California ISO (CAISO) has selected
Powertech's Transient Security Assessment Tool (TSAT) for on-line
transient security analysis of CAISO's power grid. CAISO is a
non-profit public benefit corporation charged with operating the
majority of California's high-voltage wholesale power grid.
Powerlink has selected
VSAT
November 2010 - Powerlink,
Australia, has selected VSAT for use in power system studies of its
transmission system. Powerlink is a government-ownder
corporation that owns, develops, operates and maintains Queensland's
high-voltage electricity transmission network. Its network
extends 1,700 km from
north of Cairns to the New South Wales border - approximately half
of Australia's eastern seaboard.
Southwest Power Pool
purchased DSATools
November 2010 - Southwest
Power Pool (SPP) has purchased DSATools software for use in Power
system studies of its transmission grid. SPP is a Regional
Transmission Organization in the US, with mandate to ensure reliable
supplies of power, adequate transmission infrastructure, competitive
wholesale prices of electricity, as well as to oversee enforcement
and development of reliability standards. SPP has members in nice
states: Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri,
Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
2010 DSATools user group meeting successfully held
October 2010 - The 2010
DSATools user group meeting was held in Austin, Texas, from September 29 to October 1.
This year’s UGM was attended by 49 users from 4 countries, representing 18 companies.
The recently-released DSATools version 10 was demoed at the meeting, followed by a technical seminar on performing
studies using DSATools with NERC criteria. The highlight of the meeting was a tour to ERCOT control center where
ERCOT’s on-line DSA system based on VSAT, TSAT, and DSA Manager was shown and discussed.
Online DSA System was launched at EirGrid
October 2010 - WSAT (Wind Secure level Assessment Tool),
jointly developed by Powertech and EirGrid (Ireland's national grid operator),
was officially launched at EirGrid's National Control Centre (NCC).
Power system controllers at EirGrid now consult WSAT results when making decisions on wind generation curtailment.
WSAT is built based on Powertech's on-line dynamic security assessment technology,
to monitor and predict secure level of wind generation under various system conditions and for a wide range of
security criteria (thermal, voltage, transient, and frequency).
Ameren selects VSAT
August 2010 - Ameren (USA)
has purchased VSAT for use in power system studies of its
transmission grid. Ameren is among the US's largest investor-owned
electric or gas utilities, the largest electric utility in Missouri,
and the second largest in Illinois. Ameren companies provide energy
services to 2.4 million electric and nearly one million natural gas
customers throughout its territory.
NextEra selects TSAT
August 2010 - NextEra Energy
Inc. (formerly FPL Group) has purchased TSAT for use in various
power system studies. NextEra is a leading clean energy company in
USA operating nearly 43,000 megawatts of generating capacity.
Excel Engineering selects SSAT
August 2010 - Excel
Engineering Inc. (USA) has leased SSAT for use in their power system
consulting business. Excel Engineering is a consulting company
located in Minnesota with diversified project experience including
utility transmission planning, substation design, wind farm
collector systems along with electrical transmission and
distribution protection analysis.
On-line VSAT went into production mode at BC Hydro
July 2010 - The new on-line voltage
security assessment system using Powertech's VSAT software went into
the primary production mode at BC Hydro (formerly BCTC) control
center on July 1st.The on-line system is able to give the control
center operators, in near real-time, clear and accurate vision of
voltage security status and the associated power transfer limits in
BC's transmission system. It is considered as a
critical application for the reliable and secure operation of the
power grid in the province of British Columbia, Canada.
Transpower selects TSAT for On-line Use
July
2010 - Transpower has selected Powertech's Transient Security
Assessment Tool (TSAT) for on-line use. Transpower owns and operates
New Zealand's high-voltage electricity transmission grid, providing
a seamless delivery of bulk electricity to towns, cities and major
industries across the country.
EPRI purchased SSAT
July 2010 - EPRI (The
Electric Power Research Institute, USA) has purchased SSAT for its
consulting use. EPRI is an independent, nonprofit organization
funded by the electric utility industry and it conducts research on
issues of interest to the electric power industry.
Latest DYNRED software is released and supported by Powertech

DYNRED (DYNamic REDuction), a software program developed by EPRI in 1990s for creating dynamically equivalenced models of large power systems,
was recently undergone a major overhaul sponsored by EPRI, supported by several large ISO/utilities, and completed by Powertech.

December 2009 - XM purchased Powertech's on-line and off-line VSAT for power system analysis.

November 2009 - ESKOM purchased Powertech's Voltage Security Assessment Tool (VSAT) for use in power system studies.

March 2009
Beijing TsingSoft Technology Co., Ltd. (http://www.tsingsoft.com.cn)
has signed agreement with Powertech to become an exclusive agent for Powertech's
DSATools software package in the Chinese market. TsingSoft is a high-tech company
located in Beijing, China, specializing in providing power system software and

security assessment of its power grid. AzerEnerji is the biggest energy producer
of Azerbaijan.
AEP Ohio has selected on-line VSAT

AEP (American Electric Power Co., Inc.) Ohio has selected Powertech's Voltage
Security Assessment Tool (VSAT) for on-line voltage security assessment of its
power grid. AEP Ohio serves nearly 1.5 million customers in Ohio and the northern
panhandle of West Virginia.
MISO purchased TSAT
February 2009
MISO (MidWest Independent System Operator) has procured a TSAT license for use in
system planning. MISO now holds licenses for all DSATools programs, including
on-line VSAT licenses for use in on-line voltage security assessment.
On-line VSAT in production at NEMMCO
February 2009
The on-line VSAT system went into production at The National Electricity Market
Management Company Limited (NEMMCO), Australia. On-line VSAT is integrated with
AREVA EMS and will provide NEMMCO with necessary information in ensuring voltage
security of the NEMMCO transmission system.

security assessment of its power grid. PSE-Operator S.A. is a Polish Transmission System

FERC has selected Powertech's DSATools
October 2008 -
Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has selected Powertech's DSATools™
software package for power system analysis. FERC is the United States federal agency
with jurisdiction over interstate electricity sales, wholesale electric rates,
hydroelectric licensing, natural gas pricing, and oil pipeline rates. FERC also
reviews and authorizes liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals, interstate natural gas
pipelines and non-federal hydropower projects.

Dominion Resources Services, Inc has selected Powertech's Small Signal
Analysis Tool (SSAT) for power system analysis. Dominion is one of US's

Market (NEM).

Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) has selected Powertech's Voltage Security Assessment Tool (VSAT)
and Transient Security Assessment Tool (TSAT) for On-line
use

2008 - Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) has
select ed Powertech's Voltage Security Assessment Tool (VSAT) and
Transient Security Assessment Tool (TSAT) for on-line Dynamic
Security Assessment in its new control centers. WECC, one of the
eight regional councils of the North American Electric Reliability
Council (NERC), is responsible for coordinating and promoting
electric system reliability in its territory. In addition to
promoting a reliable electric power system in the Western
Interconnection, WECC supports efficient competitive power markets,
assures open and non-discriminatory transmission access among
members, provides a forum for resolving transmission access
disputes, and provides an environment for coordinating the operating
and planning activities of its members. The WECC region encompasses
a vast area of nearly 1.8 million square miles with more than 71
million people. WECC's service territory extends from Canada to
Mexico, including the provinces of Alberta and British Columbia, the
northern portion of Baja California, Mexico, and all or portions of
the 14 western states in between.
