DYNRED (DYNamic REDuction), a software program developed by EPRI in 1990s for creating dynamically equivalenced models of
large power systems, was recently undergone a major overhaul sponsored by EPRI, supported by several large ISO/utilities,
and completed by Powertech.
DYNRED can be used to perform reduction of a set of power system models with the goal of maintaining
a faithful dynamic response in a given subsystem.
It is important to note that it not only does network reduction, but also reduction of the system dynamics.
Applications
The resulting reduced system model can be used for general stability analysis of the power system including
Voltage stability
Transient stability (including frequency stability)
Small signal stability
On-line dynamic security assessment
